Massachusetts Employer Alert: Update on Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) Law Postponement
June 17, 2019
The Department of Family and Medical Leave (the “Department”) has issued a press release (available here) clarifying the effects of the Legislature's decision to delay implementation of the paid family and medical leave law until October 1, 2019.
To compensate for the delay:
The contribution rate will be adjusted from .63% to .75% of qualified
earnings;
Employers have until September 30, 2019 to notify all covered
individuals of their rights under the Paid Family Medical Leave law
(updated notices will be available on the Department website);
Employers have until December 20, 2019 to apply for an exemption
from paid family and medical leave contributions; and
Employers have until January 31, 2020 to remit contributions for the
October 1 – December 31, 2019 quarter through MassTaxConnect.
