About Margaret
Margaret is rated AV Preeminent® in employment law and litigation, a significant rating accomplishment and a testament to the fact that her peers rank her at the highest level of professional excellence. She has years of litigation experience in a range of employment disputes, including employment discrimination, retaliation, employment contracts, payment of wages, and employee-shareholder disputes. She has tried cases before both state and federal courts, administrative agencies and in arbitration.
Margaret also devotes much of her practice to advising and assisting employers and colleges and universities so as to prevent litigation when possible. She counsels and represents employers on a range of employment matters, including personnel policy development and implementation, compliance issues, disciplinary matters, hiring and firing, the conduct of internal investigations of employee complaints, wage and hour issues, and drafting and negotiating employment contracts. Margaret assists higher education institutions in responding to and investigating reports of sex discrimination and sexual assault, ensuring compliance with Title IX of the Educations Amendments of 1972, the Clery Act and the Campus SaVE Act. She also counsels and represents colleges and universities on faculty employment and tenure matters.
Margaret has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer every year since 2008, and is one of the Top Women Attorneys in Massachusetts as chosen by Boston Magazine. Margaret’s representative experience includes private businesses, not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions and health care providers. She has lectured and written extensively for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, the Massachusetts Law Review, the Boston Bar Journal and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. Margaret is also a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators.
Prior to forming Kurker Paget LLC, Margaret was a partner at a mid-sized Boston law firm, serving as Co-Chair of its Employment Law group. Before entering the legal profession, she served in the United States Peace Corps, living and working on the island of Dominica, West Indies.
Margaret obtained her Juris Doctorate from Northeastern University School of Law. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College.
